CHELSEA CHAMPIONS LEAGUE RECORDS

Chelsea are looking to book their place in a
seventh semi-final in 11 campaigns. They
reached this stage with a 2-0 home win
against Galatasaray AS, securing a 3-1
aggregate success in the last 16.
The Blues have won seven of the 12 Uefa
competition ties in which they have had a
first-leg deficit to retrieve at Stamford Bridge,
most recently against Steaua Bucuresti in
last season's Europa League round of 16
(0-1 away, 3-1 home).
They famously ousted Napoli 4-1 after extra
time in the 2011/12 Champions League
round of 16 second leg – having lost 3-1
away – en route to lifting the trophy, though
that was their sole successful attempt to
overhaul a first-leg away defeat by a two-
goal margin or more. On the only other
occasion they lost 3-1 away from home,
Monaco earned a 2-2 draw in London in the
2003/04 Champions League semis.
Of the 11 seasons in which they have come
through the group stage, Chelsea have
topped their section eight times, including
this term. They lost home and away to FC
Basel 1893 but won their four other fixtures
without shipping a goal, beating Steaua
Bucuresti 4-0 away and 1-0 at home and FC
Schalke 04 3-0 home and away.
The Basel defeat was Chelsea's solitary
reverse in 17 European home games, with 14
victories in that sequence.
Mourinho, who also captured the Champions
League with Inter (2010), is bidding to
become the first manager to win the
European Cup with three different teams.
Only Bob Paisley (Liverpool 1977, 1978,
1981) has collected the trophy three times as
a coach.
Mourinho has never lost a European quarter-
final, winning seven Champions League ties
and one Uefa Cup last-eight contest.
Chelsea are out to land a European trophy
for the third season running having added the
Europa League last season to their 2011/12
Champions League crown.
PSG are in the quarter-finals for the second
successive campaign – and just the third
time in all. A year ago at this juncture they
drew 2-2 at home to Barcelona and 1-1 at
the Camp Nou, going out on away goals.
In this term's round of 16, a 4-0 triumph at
Bayer 04 Leverkusen heralded a comfortable
Paris victory. They won the return 2-1.
The success at Leverkusen continued a
pattern of impressive goalscoring form on
the road in this season's competition – in
Group C Blanc's team prevailed 4-1 at
Olympiacos, 5-0 at Anderlecht, and lost for
the only time in the pool 2-1 at Benfica.
PSG have won six of their last 11 Champions
League away matches, losing just two. Their
other European Cup semifinal appearance
came in 1994/95 when they succumbed 3-0
on aggregate to AC Milan.
The French side have won 11 of 14 European
ties in which they won the first leg at home,
and have won three of the four in which that
initial margin of victory was two goals. The
sole exception was against KSV Waterschei
in the 1982/83 European Cup Winners' Cup
quarterfinals, when they won 2-0 at home
but lost 3-0 in Belgium.
