FA CUP: The Porters eager to reach final
Sheffield United striker Chris Porter hopes to
banish the memories of his last trip to
Wembley by helping the club reach the FA Cup
final with victory over Hull City on Sunday.
The 30-year-old's last trip to Wembley ended
in heartbreak when United lost 8-7 on
penalties to Huddersfield in the League One
play-off final in 2012.
And Porter admitted the manner of that defeat
was one of the lowest points in his football
career.
"It was a nightmare," he said. "I think that's
probably the worst way to lose one. Especially
after they missed their first three penalties, I
thought we were on our way.
"I was taking the fifth penalty and thought I
was going to have the chance to score the
winning penalty, but it wasn't to be.
"The dressing room after was as bad as
anything I've ever seen. We were devastated."
The former Derby County man, who has
scored four goals in Sheffield United's run to
the semi-finals, hopes the pain of that defeat
can spur the Yorkshire side onto victory over
Hull this weekend.
"A lot of the lads who played in that are still
here," he said.
"There are probably five or six players and the
experience from that can only benefit us."
United could become the first club from
outside the top two divisions to reach the FA
Cup final in more than a century, but Porter
insists his team-mates will relish the
underdogs tag when they face Hull.
"I think there's less pressure on us," he added.
"They're the Premier League team so will be
massive favourites.
"We've been the underdogs in most of the
rounds now and that's suited us and we'll be
big underdogs again."
