About 50,000 Real Madrid fans turned
up at the Santiago Bernabéu stadium on
Sunday to celebrate their club’s record
10th European Cup.
The celebrations started with the team’s
open-top bus cruising into Madrid’s
Cibeles Square, where Iker Casillas and
Sergio Ramos draped a club flag around
the statue in the centre of the fountain,
as Real players traditionally do after
every trophy victory.
The party then continued at the
Bernabéu, where a laser show and rock
concert atmosphere celebrated the 4-1
victory over their city rivals Atlético.
Real’s coach, Carlo Ancelotti, led the
crowd in singing a celebratory song
recorded specially for the occasion.
Madrid’s players were introduced one
by one before Casillas and Ramos
hoisted the European Cup high at centre
stage as streamers and confetti were
sprayed around the arena to the sound
of Queen’s We Are the Champions.
Cristiano Ronaldo then took the
microphone to lead a chant of “Hala
Madrid”, a traditional rallying cry for
the club.
