EPL Arsenal in pursuit of Ajax defender

Emirates Stadium side chase Dutch
international.
Arsenal are said to be taking a keen interest
in highly rated Ajax defender Joel Veltman
according to Football Direct News .
The 22 year old has been in fine form this
term, leading to a first call-up to the Dutch
national team set-up, and is seen by Arsene
Wenger as an ideal defensive addition to help
act as back-up to first choice centre-back
pairing Laurent Koscielny and Per
Mertesacker.
Wenger may be forced to sell Thomas
Vermaelen this summer as the Belgian may
feel frustrated following 18 months stuck on
the bench and as such Veltman could be the
right man to take his spot.
Veltman's star could rise further if he makes
it into Louis van Gaal's 2014 World Cup
finals squad so Wenger would do well to
register his interest before the tournament
kicks-off.
Having won back to back Eredivisie titles
Veltman may be ready for a fresh challenge
and a move to join the Gunners may well be
very tempting, Tottenham are also said to be
keen on the youngster and could be
motivated by a move to join former Ajax men
Jan Vertonghen and Christian Eriksen at
White Hart Lane.
